Quartz for me has been a really good block, and less expensive than blocks of iron.

The overall texture is more smooth, and can be combined with more blocks.

Stained glass will also help, I suggest cyan or light blue, since your island is white, unlike mine whereas its purple and gray.

Making the bits at the bottom protrude out more and making it so that it isnt just things stuck on the bottom.

I suggest adding little armatures that hold the blue bits, and the dome could use some work.

Just do the 2d and build until youre satisfied with the size.
